Hello, I'm Sylvia Nickels, ramblin scribe, avid reader, (almost) Tennessee native, and wannabe web designer. I was born and raised in rural west Georgia but have lived in Tennessee much longer, hence the 'almost'.
On these pages, you'll find links to helpful writing sites and some of my pieces published online. The Ramblin Scribe's latest column is now found on the home page of this site. Below that is a link to an archive of my previous columns.
I've had stories published in print and online. Several may be found archived on ezine websites. The My Stories link on the navigation sidebar leads to a page listing several of the websites. Or 'Google' my name in your browser search box and find them as well as my Authors Den, Associated Content links, etc., and my personal website sylvianickels.com.
Some of the happier opportunities over the last few years have been participating, alone and with fellow writers, in a number of booksignings, festivals, conferences, expos and other book events. Click on the picture of me at my very first booksigning (Thanks, Kathy!) on the sidebar or the Slideshow link beneath it to see some of those authors and places. At these events we like to meet people and talk about books and writing and occasionally sell a few!
Several writers groups flourish in my local area. Click on the links for each organization to find out more about them. FLOW-For Love of Words, is a very small group which has been meeting in my hometown for ten or twelve years. Members of the Lost State Writers Guild, a somewhat larger group, have been together a little longer.
I'm a board member of the Appalachian Authors Guild now a Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club. Look for us at regional festivals, such as the highly-acclaimed Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon, Virginia, which takes place in July/August each year, and events marking historic occasions all around the Mid-Atlantic region.
Three times in the last several years I've put on an editor/publisher hat and helped put together an anthology of pieces written by members of the Lost State Writers Guild called Lost State Voices I, II, and III. If you'd like to know more about the Lost State Writers Guild, click the name. To learn about the Appalachian Authors Guild, click that name or the Contact Me link in the sidebar.
