Recent acceptances

April 24th, 2007 By Sylvia

I’ve had a few acceptances lately. Good thing. I was about to get a rejection complex and go off to a corner and throw a huge pity party for myself.

My story, The PI and the Dancer, has now been published online in the ezine, Blazing Adventures http://www.blazingadventuresmagazine.com. Guess I better warn everyone, it’s just a little bitty bit graphic. Though no really bad words, as in profanity.

A short story I wrote last year has been accepted by Amazon Shorts, and will be online in a few days. Amazon Shorts can be downloaded and read offline for $ .49. I don’t even get half of that, so you know I’m just going to get fabulously wealthy!

Several pieces I wrote for Associated Content are available for reading (free!) at http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/53226/sylvia_nickels.html. These are non-fiction, basic instruction on building ones own website.

Need to get some more pieces sent out and get back to work revising my first novel and the first draft of the second one. I’ve wasted(?) a whole month just about getting this blog/writing website off the ground. Hope it was worth it.

Ahh, April

April 20th, 2007 By Sylvia

Well, finally. A warm, lovely April day. After two weekends of record-breaking temperatures and SNOW, even, April is acting like the spring month we used to think she was. April has always been an important month to us. Husband, birthday. Wedding anniversary. Forty-ninth, hard to believe. Both mother’s birthdays. Husband’s sister’s birthday. Plus baby brother’s wedding anniversary, one day after his wife’s birthday. Her parents wouldn’t let them get married until she turned 18. Maybe they were onto something, the marriage has lasted nearly thirty years!
I’ve been trying to get this blog/website to fly for several weeks now, figured I better make another post. Going to tweak it some more, hope I don’t break it - again.

Blog Intro from the Ramblin Scribe

March 31st, 2007 By Sylvia

Hello, I’m Sylvia Nickels, ramblin scribe, avid reader, (almost)Tennessee native, and wannabe Web designer. I try to keep the place tidy and broken links mended. But if you find a broken one, let me know by sending a message to Sylvia if you would be so kind.

I’ve had stories published in print and online. Several are archived on the web and can still be read, if you should be so inclined. If you ‘Google’ my name, they along with the pages of this website will come up. Also my affiliations, Sisters in Crime, national and online chapters, and the Authors Den online.

I’m a member of several writers groups in my local area. Click on the links for each organization to find out more about them. FLOW-For Love of Words, is a very small group which has been meeting in my hometown for ten or twelve years. Members of the Lost State Writers Guild, a somewhat larger group, have been together a little longer. The Appalachian Authors Guild and Associates, which includes writers scattered through the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian Region, as well as a couple of Western states, filed for incorporation June 6, 2007. Members sign and sell their books at numerous festivals throughout the country.
